Academy FAQ

1. What is the AHA Academy Program?

The AHA Academy Program is a beginner-level show division designed to introduce new riders to Arabian and Half-Arabian horse showing in a supportive, educational environment. Academy classes focus on confidence-building and learning, creating a positive first experience in the show ring.

2. Who can participate in Academy classes?

Academy classes are open to beginning riders and may be ridden on horses of any breed. The program is intended for riders who are new to showing or developing their skills and confidence in a competition setting.

3. Are Academy classes AHA or USEF rated?

No. Academy classes are not AHA or USEF rated and are not reported to either organization. AHA or USEF membership is not required to participate in Academy classes. However, AHA does offer FREE Youth Memberships to First Year Academy Exhibitors.

4. Why is Academy important to the future of the Arabian horse?

Academy creates an accessible entry point for new riders, helping them gain experience and confidence while forming a connection to the Arabian horse. By welcoming riders early and supporting their development, Academy strengthens local shows, supports lesson programs, and builds a sustainable pipeline of future exhibitors, members, and advocates.

5. Why is Academy designed as a long-term program?

Meaningful growth takes time. Academy is most successful when shows commit to offering classes consistently over multiple years. A recommended three-year commitment allows instructors to build participation, riders to progress with confidence, and Academy classes to become a recognized and valued part of the show experience.

6. How does Academy benefit show managers and local shows?

Academy helps grow entries, attract new audiences, and strengthen community engagement. It allows shows to partner with lesson programs, introduce new riders to Arabian events, and create a welcoming environment that supports long-term participation and sustainability.

7. Where can shows and instructors find resources to get started?

Suggested Academy rules, sample show schedules, show premium language, marketing tools, and implementation guides are available on the AHA Academy Program Toolkit. These resources are designed to make adding Academy classes easy and consistent for shows and instructors.
