How do I... Draw Markings For My Grey Horse?
Having trouble drawing markings for your grey horse? Here are
some helpful hints:
- Always remember to look for pink skin underneath the white
hairs and mark "yes" or "no" in the
Underlying Pink Skin boxes.
- Clip and/or wet the legs and face to make it easy to identify
pink skin.
- If the hoof color is light or parti, you will most likely find
pink skin above it.
- Only white markings with underlying pink skin are
"true" markings on a grey horse.
Why is pink skin so important?
Since markings are normally drawn at a young age, the horse is
usually in the process of greying and white markings are still
distinguishable at this time. When the horse continues to grey,
these white markings will blend with the rest of the coat color and
can be difficult to identify. However, the pink skin will never
change. Pink skin can be used to identify the horse's true markings
for a lifetime. This is why it is so important to correctly identify
where the pink skin is present.
