How Do I...  Change the name of my horse?

A recorded owner may request a change of the horse’s name provided the horse has no registered progeny, is not an imported animal, has never been exported, has not received any points in previous IAHA or AHA programs and has not been issued a Certificate of Registration for Racing. The Certificate of Registration must be submitted with the signature(s) of the recorded owner(s) and the name change fee. Upon approval by the Association, an amended Certificate of Registration will be issued to the recorded owner of the horse. See Article 1030.

This name change applies only to domestic horses (Article 1001) or horses imported in utero (Article 1004).

Will I be able to identify a horse after its name has changed? Yes, horses can still be located using the former name either by Association personnel or by individuals searching names via DataSource Online. DataSource will display former names in parentheses behind the registered name.
