Troubleshooting Arabian Horse DataSource 2001

Listed below are some of the reported problems and an FTP solution to fix the various identified problems. If you do not see your problem identified, or have followed the instructions and are still experiencing problems, please call the Association at (303)696-4500 or e-mail us. These solutions work with the 2001 version only.  Click here for 2000 version information.

1. Do you receive any of the following messages and have Windows 95 or an early edition of Windows 98?
   • Unexpected VB error. ADO could not find specified provider.
   • OLEUT32.DLL is out of date.
   • Active X Cannot read component.
   • Active X doesn't read disc.
   • Unexpected VB error, class does not support automation or does not support expected interface.

These problems are caused when the Microsoft Data Access controls are not properly installed during the DataSource 2001 installation process. In order to correct this on Windows 95 or early editions of Windows 98 you will need to use FTP to download the correct MDAC version.

How to Download and Install MDAC 2.1 SP2 from the Association Web Site using MS-DOS/FTP

You can get a copy of MDAC 2.1 from the Arabian Horse Association using your Internet connection and Microsoft's FTP (File Transfer Protocol). After connecting to the Internet, follow these instructions:

STEP 1: LOG IN TO DOWNLOAD SITE

1. Open an MS-DOS window on your computer by clicking Start, Programs, MS-DOS command prompt.
2. At the C:\Windows> prompt, type "cd .." and press enter.
3. At the C:> prompt type "mkdir ds2001tmp" and press enter.
4. At the C:> prompt type "cd ds2001tmp" and press enter.
5. At the C:> prompt type "ftp" and press enter.
6. At the ftp> prompt type "open 206.114.155.121" and press enter.
7. At the User prompt type "DS2001" and press enter.
8. At the Password prompt type "arabian" and press enter. Note, when you type "arabian" the characters you type will not echo back to the screen.

STEP 2: DOWNLOAD MDAC 2.1 SP2

1. At the ftp> prompt type "binary" and press enter.
2. At the ftp> prompt type "get mdac_typ.exe" and press enter. The mdac_typ.exe file will be downloaded to your computer. Depending on your type of connection to the internet this may take anywhere from 5 to 45 minutes. You will not see anything appear in the MS-DOS window while the file is downloaded to your computer. When the file has finished downloading to your computer the message "ftp: 6509576 bytes received" will appear.
3. At the ftp> prompt type "close" and press enter.
4. At the ftp> prompt type "quit" and press enter.
5. At the C:> prompt type "exit" and press enter. This will close your MS-DOS window.

STEP 3: INSTALL MDAC 2.1 SP2

1. Open the folder on your C: drive named ds2001tmp by highlighting the name (created in step 3 above).
2. Double click on the mdac_typ.exe file. This will run the MDAC 2.1 installation program on your computer. Follow those instructions.
3. After the MDAC install completes, re-boot your computer.
4. Try the DataSource 2001 application. If it still does not work, uninstall DataSource 2001 and re-install and try again.
5. You may then delete the temporary folder, ds20001tmp, through Windows Explorer.
