How Do I...  Register My Imported Horse?

Imported horses

Below is a "checklist" of information and documentation needed when applying for registration when a horse has been imported to the United States or Mexico from a foreign country. (This does not include horses imported from Canada)

  1. A completed Imported Horse Registration Application
  2. The original foreign Certificate of Registration
  3. The original foreign Pedigree*
  4. The foreign Export Certificate
  5. Photos of all four views of the horse, identifying any white markings, brands or tattoos
  6. Date the horse entered the U.S. or Mexico
  7. The blood types of both parents
  8. The appropriate fee**

*To be eligible for registration, the horse must be imported from a current approved source and be of pure Arabian blood as verified by a properly authenticated pedigree which traces in all lines to current approved sources.

** For imported horses, the registration fee is determined by the time elapsed between the date of possession and the postmark date when the application is mailed to us. The date of possession is considered to be the date released from quarantine. If the horse was not under quarantine, the import date will be considered the date of possession.

Date of possession to 2 months - $250.00
2 months to 6 months - $500.00
After 6 months - $1000.00
