General Session 1 was the official kickoff of the 2006 AHA Convention, themed 'Race on Into Louisville'.
Jackie Cossio-Webster and Peggy Treisback represent host Regions 13 and 14, and opened with a raffle drawing of special gifts for the delegates.

The Louisville Male High School ROTC presented the flags for the Convention Color Presentation.
|
|
|
|
Over 500 delegates, alternates and guests from 18 AHA regions are in attendance to vote on new resolutions
and learn about tools, programs and services in the AHA community.

A variety of outside speakers entertain and educate with various seminars throughout the day.
John Nicholson, CEO of the Kentucky Horse Park, spoke on recent advancements at the park and upcoming special
activities surrounding its hosting obligations of the 2010 World Equestrian Games.

John Nicholson presented a rousing video on the 2006 World Equestrian Games held in Aachen,
Germany just three months ago, in anticipation of the excitement and unmatched caliber of the 2010 Games.
|
|
|
The Kentucky Horse Park is home to the International Museum of the Horse,
a globally respected museum hosting world class international exhibitiions on equine subjects.
Bill Cook, museum curator, excitedly spoke about an upcoming 2010 exhibit that is larger than
any other hosted: "A Gift From the Desert: Arabian Horses and the Cultures That Treasured Them."
He also proudly announced that the $2.5 million had been raised to completion last Saturday.
This will be the most exhaustive display on Arabian horses ever compiled in the history of the world,
and will parallel nicely with the 2010 World Equestrian Games held at the Kentucky Horse Park.

Over 100 people attended the Black Stallion Literacy Project Forum (BSLP), lead by BSLP President Larry Bramblett
of Kissimmee, FL, who walked through the practical and emotional elements of the program that inspires children
to read through the magic of Walter Farley's Black Stallion.
|
|
