Arabian Racing Awards
The Darley Awards weekend is known as one of the premier occasions in the sport of Arabian horse racing, and this year's event was no exception. Held January 23-25, 2004 at Southern California's Los Alamitos Race Course, the 17th edition of the Darley Awards Ceremony followed its honored traditions by recognizing the outstanding achievements in Arabian racing for 2003.
The Darleys are conducted under the auspices of the Board of Stewards of the Arabian Racing Cup, which is administered by the Arabian Jockey Club. This year's voting panel consisted of the aforementioned board, representatives of Arabian Finish Line and Arabian Horse World and the chairs of the nine state or regional Arabian racing organizations. Congratulations go to the following 2003 Darley Award winners:
- Horse of the Year-RW Country Gent (Wiking x Dunsamba), Pamela Linahan & Sandy Mihaloff
- 3-Year-Old Filly-Nafissah (Calin De Louve x Noor), Guy Neivens
- 3-Year-Old Colt/Gelding-Djenius (Djebbel x Silky Way), Dianne Waldron
- 4-Year-Old Colt/Gelding-Ontario HF (Monarch AH x HF Orzonna), Todd Moak
- 4-Year-Old Filly-More Adoraable (Virgule Al Maury x More O Dora), Ted & Cheri Wright
- Older Horse-RW Country Gent (Wiking x Dunsamba), Pamela Linahan & Sandy Mihaloff
- Older Mare-Staccata (FA Stacato x Annastazsiaa), Jean Pacheo

Other presentations made at Los Alamitos included the annual Arabian Jockey Club (AJC) Performance Awards on January 23, which recognize outstanding achievements in the following five categories:
- New Owner of the Year-Richard Englander
- Claim of the Year-Joyful Love (Emael x Love Joy), Richard Englander
- Most Rides by an Arabian Jockey-Helen Vanek
- Most Starts by an Arabian Trainer-Felix G. Payne
- Race Meet of the Year-Mount Pleasant Meadows, Mt. Pleasant, MI
In addition to the well-deserved honors given for outstanding achievement in the past year, the Darley Weekend also recognizes lifetime accomplishments in the sport with the Arabian Racing Tent of Honor and Hall of Fame. Both were established by the Arabian Horse Trust to honor individuals for their contribution to the Arabian breed and to Arabian racing, and to recognize outstanding Arabian race horses for their achievements in the sport.
To be considered for induction to the Arabian Racing Tent of Honor, an individual must have had a significant impact on the Arabian horse community, demonstrated longevity in the Arabian industry and raced or been involved in Arabian racing for a minimum of 10 years.
Horses chosen for induction into the Arabian Racing Hall of Fame are selected for their outstanding overall performance as a runner, or their demonstrated quality as a sire or broodmare (distaff). To be considered for induction as a runner, a horse must have raced at least three years, have at least three stakes wins and have been retired from racing five years. The following inductees were recognized:
- Tent of Honor - Lynn Ashby
- Hall of Fame --Distaff - HT Sarah (*Mellon x EW Rema), The Jockey Club of Turkiye
AHA is a 40,000 member equine association that registers and maintains a database of more then one million Arabian, Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horses.
