Arena Football Team Gets Arabian Horse Mascot
Arena Football Team Gets Arabian Horse Mascot
Allen Pogue’s 17-year-old Arabian, Hasan, is the “Thunder” of arena football.
As a new team with a white horse head logo, the Austin Wranglers were looking
for a horse that embodied this spirit and could perform an intricate,
spine-tingling routine. Enter, Hasan and owner/trainer Allen Pogue. In their
new role with the Wranglers, Pogue has Hasan rear, walk on his hind legs and
stand on a pedestal while saluting with a cocked front leg. Galloping into an
arena throbbing with spotlights, the blinding glare from 16 Harleys,
cheerleaders, fireworks and 12,000 applauding fans is a true test of his
obedience..
For a complete Wrangler game schedule go to www.austinwranglers.com and see
Hasan in action. Hasan and Pogue will also make other Texas appearances at
Texas A&M University and at several customer appreciation events for
Purina as a clinician..
Calling All Half-Arabian Reining
Prospects
At the 2004 U.S. Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky, a new
performance futurity for Half-Arabians will make its debut, the Half-Arabian
Reining Futurity open to horses between 3 and 5 years of age. Performance
Futurities do not require in-utero enrollment. Watch for upcoming news about
this new class!.
2003 Youth of the Year
Kendra McConnell of Berthoud, Colorado, was named 2003 AHA Youth
of the Year. McConnell has shown Arabians at class A and regional shows since
the age of 5. At 18-years-old, McConnell is an active participant in AHYA
activities serving as the Region 8 Youth Director. She routinely competes at
Youth Nationals and is a member of the Colorado AHC and Region 8 horse
judging teams. McConnell is active in 4-H, where she has shown her Arabians
and Half-Arabians through all of the 4-H horsemanship levels in all riding
seats. At school, McConnell is involved in a wide variety of academic and
community service societies such as the National Honor Society, Peer Support
Counseling, Key Club and Future Business Leaders of America. As Youth of the
Year, McConnell will be featured in the June/July issue of Arabian Horse
Magazine, receive a custom saddle with fittings from AHA Corporate Partner
Arabian Saddle Company and honored at the 2004 Youth Nationals.
Information Technology Update
E-mail and
SPAM Filters
Many of our
members who use AOL have had difficulty receiving e-mail from us. Because of
the way AOL’s systems scan and classify e-mail, most AHA e-mail is
automatically dumped into the recipient's SPAM folder. We have finally been
able to make arrangements with AOL to be added to their “WhiteList.” What
this means is that AOL should allow all e-mail traffic from AHA to flow to
the intended recipient unabated.
Offline Alert
On Friday
night, March 26, the database and accounting systems will be shut down for
updates, and web transactions will be suspended until its completion. The
system will be taken offline at 5:00 p.m. on Friday the 26th and put back
online by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 27.
Troubleshooting a Common
Problem
Problem: When logging into
secure portions of the AHA website, you may get a “security information”
pop-up window that asks “Do you want to display non-secure items?” or one
that states that you are not set up to “Display Mixed Content.” This problem
is a result of an update to Internet Explorer that Microsoft sent out over
its automatic update system.
Fix: In Internet Explorer,
go to the “Tools” menu and select “Internet Options.” Then select the
“Security” tab and click the ‘Custom Level…” button at the bottom of the
window. Once there, scroll down the list until you reach the “Display Mixed
Content” option and then click the “Enable” button. Click “Ok” until you have
completely backed out of the menus and the problem will be corrected.

Sweepstakes-nominated horse during their competitive youth career at AHA
regional or national shows and rides. Click here
for a complete list of 2002 and 2003 recipients.
Up to 40 scholarships of $2,500 will be awarded each year to current
