Workin' and Fixin'

Aboard tractors, fixing water trucks and other mechanical hiccups, you will find Matt Amsden, who has volunteered as the grounds assistant for nine years now, always sporting a smile on his face.

Involved with the Arabian breed by marriage for the past 30 years, the Farmington, Missouri, resident returns each year to help out because of the people, which seems to be a common denominator among all volunteers. "I look forward to meeting everyone and visiting with the people at Nationals," Amsden says. "We also have a great team that works together here."

Amsden can often be found competing or preparing for Cowboy Mounted Shooting competitions. On Friday and Saturday, the rest of his family will be exhibiting in the special Cowboy Mounted Shooting event during U.S. Nationals. His daughter, Kayce, now 30, actually showed at the first Youth Nationals in Oklahoma City in hunt seat.

Outside of working U.S. Nationals, Amsden stays busy working as a ring steward at Region 6 and 11 shows, as well as the show manager for several in the Missouri area. He is a horse superintendent for the North Dakota State Fair. He also works for a livestock market company.
