Chasing Cows

Three year old "T” Garland chases cows with his friend Zack. The noisy weanlings spooked more then one horse meandering by as riders grabbed manes as their skittish horses said to themselves, “Where the heck did these critters come from? Haven’t ever seen those around the farm!”

A Breeder’s Tale

Buckshot Farms is dedicated to breeding athletic horses and has numerous national championships to their credit. Owner Cory Vokoun wishes more people had the confidence to buy young prospects which she says Arabian folks have not yet done the way they do in other breeds.

“Amateurs in the Arabian industry have a tendency to buy proven show horses more than young prospects. She cites as an example an English pleasure futurity prospect she had that two people looked at and declined in February of 2004 named BSF Electra that she couldn’t sell for $15,000. That horse went on to win the English pleasure performance futurity at U.S. nationals commanding a price exceedingly more than the first offer.

“It seems that the confidence just isn’t there.” Incentives such as futurities and select auctions can be good. If she had three wishes?

  • Amateur maturity at the U.S. Nationals
  • Large prize pot for all performance futurities
  • An arean the reiners could have all to themselves

  • Half-Arabian Reining AAOTR Champion SR Desperado and Carolyn Edson

    *Aladdinn Casts His Spell

You’d think it was an audience with the pope, but that was the awe and reverence that swept the crowd as they watched the beautiful elder statesman *Aladdinn during his daily presentation at noon. People queued up to watch Isaac Taylor of Taylor Ranch, Provo Utah, where Aladdin lives, each one offering a carrot or piece of apple to get ears for a photo opportunity. Some wiped tears away, some could barely let go of his neck. Peter Cameron who is being honored in the Judges Hall of Fame told the crowd he judged *Aladdinn in Scottsdale and gave him the championship and Bey Shah reserve in a field that also included *Padron.
