Aladdinn’s Farewell Tour Ends on Emotional High Note

Before the Junior Stallions on Saturday night, *Aladdin was presented to the crowd who gave him a standing ovation as Isaac Taylor walked and trotted him around the arena. Remembrances by Australian judge Gloria Lanigan and Gene Lacroix, whose family brought him to the United States from Sweden, were given from center ting. After he left the arena, people milled in the dark paddock for one last chance just to be close to him.

Rags to Riches Champion

Two weeks after rescuing several emaciated mares, Helen Slater got a surprise call from the barn. “There’s a baby in the field,” they said. “It didn’t even register; I thought they meant a human baby, and I was going to tell them to call 911,” said Slater. They couldn’t even tell which mare the mother was because the one standing next to the foal was an old veteran mare. She ended up with the mother and a baby colt that she ultimately sent to Tish Kondas for training. “He didn’t really trot, I have to credit Tish for that.” The baby, now four years old, went on to win regional championships and the grand prize on Saturday morning, the Half-Arabian Country English Pleasure Junior Horse Championship.

Record Numbers for Working Cow

“People want to ride their horses,” says Arabian Working Cow AAOTR champion Kimberly Dawn Coons who rode Windswift Salim+ to a championship. “You can’t do that with some of these pleasure horses. “I can take my working western horses and hang out in the pasture or go have a bbq with my friends. It’s a real family affair. You can enjoy your horses and your friends no matter what level of rider you are.” This year’s show brought 55 Arabian working cow horses and 14 Half-Arabians.
