Canadian Nationals

Meet the Volunteers

August 17, 2009

Marion Enders

Marion Enders

Marion Enders began her stint as a volunteer for the Canadian Nationals in 1986. That year she started out as a timer at ringside under Austin Whelihan's guidance. "What fun that first year was! I had three stop watches and timed everything from time outs to exhibitors falling off their horse," Enders laughs.

Since that year as a timer, Enders has spent her time helping at Canadian Nationals as a scorer, show secretary and most recently office manager. Enders said the exhibitors make the Canadian National show a great event because they have lots of fun, laid back and enjoy spending time with everyone at the show. Enders said that all the volunteers make the event rewarding. "People mostly from Saskatchewan receive nothing but a golf shirt, a smile and a 'Thank You', and they cheerfully return each year for a variety of reasons-most of all for their love of the beautiful Arabian horses."

When not working the Royal Red each year, Enders plays with her five grandchildren, goes to rodeos-especially watching her 11-year-old grandson ride steers while the two littler ones do sheep riding; travels for three months to Arizona each year and helps with the many daily chores that living on a busy ranch entails.
