48th Canadian National Arabian & Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show
Wednesday August 24, 2005 - Canadian Nationals Daily Update

Oh, Canada!
It seemed all of Canada, including Prime Minister Paul Martin, was on hand to welcome AHA to the 48th annual National Arabian and Half-Arabian Championships in Regina. Mr. Martin, far right, and his cabinet, who were in Regina on business, visited the commercial exhibit area, the stalls and sat in on an amateur class, where he received a quick course on Arabians from AHA Director of National Events Tim Moerbe, left, and Gerald McDonald, center, chairman of the show commission. Another Arabian fan in the making? The prime minister is the first head of state to ever visit a national AHA show.

The PM, who raises cattle and sheep, showed great interest in both the horses and the show's economic impact on Regina, valued at some $11.8 million (U.S.) This year's show drew 2,171 entries, among 850 horses. The largest class was Arabian Western Pleasure, followed by Arabian Hunter Pleasure.

Katie Cooper, 12, and her mom, Cindy, traveled two hours to see the show on Wednesday. The Coopers own two Arabians, Prince and Benz, and Katie enjoys riding in native costume, wearing outfits hand-made by her grandmother for Cindy and her sister years ago.
It's a jungle in here. The show's 130 barns decorated their areas with 60 varieties of plants, from cedars to lillies.
Veteran Canadian Nationals fans, Eula and Mae, return to catch the action this year.
Owner/breeder Dinnni Mack has been in the ribbons, celebrating here her HA/AA mare breeding saddle pleasure division championship with with Koweta Call Me Emmie, handled by Robert Bick.
Dressed in pink down to their boots, Christy Elbers and Okie Dokey go out for a stroll with Heather Munnro and friend.
Another favorite horse show event--shopping!
Waiting…waiting.
