Sweet Success!
The sport of showing horses can be tough, often involving sweat, hard work, long nights and tummy-tightening moments. And that makes success all the sweeter.
Young professional trainer Sarah Paripovich brought four riders to Canadian Nationals and all four were in the ribbons, collecting a championship, two reserves and a Top Ten. "You sit in the stands as a small trainer and picture yourself bringing horses and riders to this success level. Stick to it and focus and you can do it!" she said. Shown here, from left, Paripovich, Kendra Hagel, Ashley Then, Janelle Then and champion barn mom, Kris Hagel. Not pictured but a key team player: Albert Martinez.
Renee Shaw-Gillespie and The Master Plan +/, from Calgary, celebrate their Top Ten in Western Pleasure AOTR. She first met Master at Canadian Nationals and was able to buy him four years later. There have been challenges, she said, but added with love, "He's been a very good boy."
Dressage Prix St. Georges champion Brian MacMahon and dressage champion/hunter Top Ten winner Beth Noteman share a light moment.

Horse Show Homes Away from Home
For the five-day show, Canadian Nationals' 130 barns set up shop in style, from bubbling fountains and shuffle boards to big-screen TV and soft sofas.
