About the Ride
This ride is not your average "nose to tail" trail ride. With trails that are geared for the Intermediate to Advanced rider, each day will bring challenges and new, sometimes difficult terrain. What a great way to explore the Wild West! This ride is both fun and exhilarating. You'll be guaranteed to experience something out of the norm each day in these Nebraskan hills. The ride is held at the historic Fort Robinson State Park in Crawford, Nebraska. Fort Robinson State Park is a legendary facility which once housed the largest Cavalry Remount Depot for the United States Army. The site was a U.S. military outpost from 1874 to 1948 and the home of the United States Army's Arabian Breeding Program in the 1940's. The 22,000 acre grounds are graced with crested buttes, rolling plains and many outpost buildings of fascinating historical relevance. This ride is designed to challenge and reward both horse and rider. At the end of the ride, you'll look back and be proud of what you and your horse were able to accomplish together.

Included in this ride is housing for all participants, stalls for the horses, and 3 home cooked meals a day! Please indicate on the Registration Application who you would like to share a room with, and where you would like to stall your horse.

Recommendations
Since this ride is more complex, here are some things that are recommended to help keep everyone safe.
  1. Please don't bring along a horse that you are unfamiliar with.
  2. Condition your horse ahead of time for trail riding, especially with other horses.
  3. People attending should be confident riders. This is not a trail ride for beginners.
  4. There are some water crossings, nothing deep or fast, but it helps to expose your horse to water beforehand.
  5. Make sure all tack fits correctly. We do ride for a long time each day. Tack that is too loose or tight can cause discomfort for the horse, or can come off.
  6. Remember the rule of thumb is that a horse should only carry 20% of its body weight, including the saddle. The average weight of a 15 hand Arabian is 1,000lbs.
  7. Shoes are suggested for this ride. Most of the trails are dirt, however we will cross some rock and pavement.
