Breeders Sweepstakes Program Revolutionary Changes!
Changes to Arabian Breeders Sweepstakes Program Implemented by Arabian Breeders Sweepstakes Commission May 11, 2005
Introduction
The Arabian Breeders Sweepstakes Commission has implemented revolutionary changes to the Sweepstakes program based on a vision of a healthy future for the Arabian horse. To enhance its role as a driving marketing force for the Arabian horse, the Sweepstakes program was changed in order to:
- Increase interest and participation in the Sweepstakes program for everyone, from those who compete at the local level to those striving to breed a national champion
- Create an all-inclusive Breeders Incentive that delivers a direct, continuing and significant return to participating breeders
- Bring excitement back to the competition arena so spectators are encouraged to get involved in the competition and the breed
- Encourage the breeding of Arabian, Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horses
Criteria
The Commission utilized the following criteria in building the new Sweepstakes program
- Members' concerns about the Sweepstakes program were a major impetus for the changes made
- Sweepstakes payback must include the participating breeders that nominate foals and fund the program
- There is no "one size fits all" Sweepstakes program, but there is a Sweepstakes program to reward all levels of breeders and competitors
- Rewarding younger horses will stimulate breeding and increase marketability
- Compelling changes were implemented to encourage breeding and provide a place for everyone with a Sweepstakes horse to participate
Updates
- Breeders Incentive added that pays back to the nominating owner 15 percent of all monies earned in the Sweepstakes program by the Breeding Entry throughout its lifetime
- $100,000 Sweepstakes High Point Award for Champion, Reserve and remaining Top Ten based on accumulated points earned throughout the U.S. and Canada at AHA-recognized events such as Class A, B and C level shows, distance rides, etc.

- Sweepstakes High Point Award for Champion, Reserve and remaining Top Five at each of the 18 regions based on accumulated points earned within that region at AHA-recognized events such as Class A, B and C level shows, distance rides, etc.
- New amateur classes designated for Sweepstakes funding at regional shows
- All current amateur regional classes to remain funded
- Amnesty pricing for weanling and yearling Original Entries is available through 12/31/05 at reduced prices of $1,500 for weanlings (foals of 2005) and $2,000 for yearlings (foals of 2004).
